Oxford University Classical Dramatic Society, in association with Barbarian Productions: Clytemnestra - The Oxford Greek Play 2011.

“No one gets through life unscathed”

The Trojan War is over, but all is not well in Argos. After murdering her husband Agamemnon, Clytemnestra rules as queen in the palatial city, estranged from her grieving daughter Elektra. Little do they know that Clytemnestra’s son Orestes has returned home in secret to make her pay for the murder of his father with her own life. As blood begets blood, who can tell how this fury will end?

A national institution over 130 years old, The Oxford Greek Play in 2011 brought Aeschylus’ ancient classic to the stage with a production that will delighted all the senses. A staggering set, a bespoke musical score and the chance to hear the greatest drama of the ancient world in the mythical rhythm of its native language, Clytemnestra promised to be, and indeed delivered, a fantastic spectacle of theatre.

Clytemnestra was performed in Ancient Greek with a new digitally projected English translation at the Oxford Playhouse in November 2011. The show was an enormous success, receiving highly positive reviews and an audience of over 3,300.
